This is what I think of when someone asks for my opinion on designing a door.
“Lets build a rose”, well not literally, but lets build something that represents you.
So many times I have to convince customers to be brave when designing their door! To use their imagination! It’s so easy to just pick something from our catalogue, something simple and classic, which would look great, but the front door is like the smile of your home. It’s the first thing you see. It should shine!
Now I can hear your thoughts… “But what’s it cost to be different?”
Surprisingly not a lot. Sure if you want to design a door fit for Buckingham Palace, then yes, warm the credit card up, but most of the time it’s just small subtle choices that make the best impressions.
It can be as simple as choosing a flat bar over a square one, a bright vibrant colour, over a safe conservative one, or a nice set of handles from the Mother of Pearl range. The options are endless! It just takes thought and imagination.
If you’ve been into an industrial furniture shop lately you may have seen the latest idea of making lamps and candle stick holders from plumbers pipe. When I first saw this I thought, “You’ve got to be kidding?”
Well I now have a customer discussing the very same idea to make a security door. I think it’s a great idea, especially as it will suit their home and its eclectic style, but these particular customers make bold decisions on a daily basis, it’s their way of life. I understand this style is not for everyone, but now and again it’s nice step out of the box…. and smell the roses.
So next time you have a decision to make, don’t take the easy option. Show the world, or just your street, that you’re alive and let that smile shine!!
